Our kitchen is one of my favorite areas in the house. But of course, isn’t the kitchen just about everyone’s favorite? Somehow, we always end up gathering in the kitchen. We were very aware of that, and designed the kitchen to be stylish and functional at the same time. I believe we were successful at that. The layout of our bottom floor is very open, or farmhouse style, but the style itself is more industrial with brick, concrete, and exposed AC/pipes.
Today, I want to share with you just a few of my favorite things in our kitchen.
First on the list is our bar stools. SWOON. I absolutely LOVE our bar stools. They’re from CB2 and were on back order for months. Well worth the wait. I knew I wanted brass and something geometric. These were a perfect fit. Choosing the height was tricky, but I just searched something like “bar stool height chart” in Pinterest and found plenty of charts to help me know which height to choose. You can find the stools here.
One thing that I feel truly helps this area feel more industrial is the lights. Originally, I found some large pendant lights that we had hanging for a month or so, and I just wasn’t feeling it. After looking back at inspiration photos for what I was going for, I realized I needed something simple. So, while at IKEA one day, I came across these and for a fraction of the cost of just one of my original pendant lights, we bought three hanging bulbs. I love how they made the space feel. It gave the ceiling even more height by not being weighed down by big pendants.
And lastly for today, I give you our sink. Who knew choosing the right sink would make such a difference?! Originally, I planned on a farmhouse sink, but after thinking about it, I didn’t really care for that style. And of course, I wanted to be different and not conform to “farmhouse” just because I had some elements of farmhouse in place. I found the Blanco brand while thumbing through a design magazine in Barnes and Noble and snapped a photo of the article. I thought, “Let me just see if Amazon happens to sell it,” and guess what…they sure did!
I love this sink. I hesitated on black because of water stains, but it has not been a problem. The finish is very forgiving. It came with several accessories, which makes it even more functional. There are several grids I use daily and a cutting board that sits perfectly on top. You can find my version here, but Blanco offers several styles and colors.
I hope you find this helpful. I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions!
